MI Unemployment Numbers Shift In January

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State officials say seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates in January increased in eight of the 17 major labor market regions in Michigan, declined in seven and were unchanged in two.

According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, total employment and labor force levels fell seasonally over the month in most areas.

The Ann Arbor area had the state’s lowest jobless rate in January at 5 percent while Northeast Lower Michigan had the highest at 13.2 percent.

The U.P. rate was 9.7 percent while Marquette County’s rate matched the state rate of 7.8 percent.
