One Dead In Eastern U.P. House Explosion

Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police at the Sault Ste. Marie Post responded to a fatal home explosion and fire yesterday morning on Drummond Island in Chippewa County.

Witnesses say a loud explosion was heard and felt on the island just before 9:00 a.m., and shortly afterwards, smoke was seen in the Sturgeon Bay Road area.

The Drummond Island Fire Department and Troopers located the residence at 34122 South Sturgeon Bay Road and found the home completely destroyed by the explosion and on fire.

Upon searching the home, authorities located the body of a deceased woman in the debris.

No name has been released at this time and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of the explosion and fire.
