Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The City of Marquette Community Services Department is seeking a state grant to assist with the expense of the demolition of the Cinder Pond Marina building.

The department will be applying for a grant from the Michigan DNR Waterways Program for approximately $80,000 that would be used as supplemental funding for the project.

According to City Community Services Director Karl Zuger the money will assist with portions that may not be covered by insurance.

Zuger says the demolition project is hoped to be completed by June 1st with a price tag of just over $250,000.

The building was damaged in early March when extreme cold caused the building to shift and the foundation and walls cracked, making it unsafe.
