Ishpeming Man Arraigned For Police Standoff

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Marquette County man has been arraigned on felony home invasion charges following a standoff with police in Ishpeming.

    33-year-old Robert John Rajala of Ishpeming plead not guilty to the charge this morning in Ishpeming District Court.

    Rajala is charged in connection with the incident on Monday morning, when a woman left a residence on the 1800 block of Hewitt Street and told police her boyfriend entered her home without her permission and assaulted her.

    She also said he had been drinking and said he was going to kill people and he may have been suffering from PTSD.

    Police surrounded the residence and secured a warrant for the Rajala’s arrest for first degree home invasion.

    He surrendered early Tuesday after seeing the armored vehicle that Troopers had on scene.

    Rajala is being held in the Marquette County jail on a $150,000 bond on the home invasion charge, which is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

    He faces a preliminary exam in the case on April 29th.
