Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Department of Natural Resources and the Arbor Day Foundation say four U.P. communities are among 125 in the state that have been awarded “Tree City USA” certification for work accomplished in 2013.

The cities of Marquette, Escanaba, Gladstone and Norway have been recognized for responsible community-wide tree care, having a tree ordinance and a budget for tree care, and hold an annual Arbor Day celebration.

The Tree City USA program promotes proper tree care and management in urban areas and calls attention to the economic, health and aesthetic benefits trees offer.
