Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An agreement between the City of Marquette and Lundin Mining covering truck traffic in the city from the Eagle Mine in Northern Marquette County has been approved.

The Marquette City Commission voted to unanimously accept the plan last night.

Under the agreement, Lundin will financially compensate the city for maintenance of streets used as the haul route.

The agreement outlines the traffic route as along County Road 550 to Sugarloaf Avenue and along Wright Street.

The agreement includes a payment schedule for Lundin of $500,000 per year for the length of the agreement for street maintenance as well as $200,000 annually for safety improvements along the route.

The agreement is scheduled to go into effect on September 1st. The proposal also provides for early termination upon successful implementation of any bypass roadway solution, as well as provisions for continued use and compensation to the City in the event a bypass is not realized.
