Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police at the Iron Mountain Post are reporting the arrest of the former Mayor of Escanaba for felony embezzlement.

58-year-old Leo Evans was arrested following an investigation into the embezzlement of funds from the Escanaba Eagles Club in Delta County.

Evans was arrested on Monday on a charge of embezzlement of $100,000 or more, which is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison, if convicted.

Evans was arraigned on the charge yesterday in Delta County District Court and was released on bond pending future court proceedings.

Evans resigned from the Escanaba City Council in April. He served 18 years on the council and was recently Mayor Pro-Tem.
