Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An effort to to trim trees along a major electrical transmission line between Iron Mountain and Republic using a helicopter and heavy-duty air saw is underway this week.

American Transmission Company says  the helicopter uses a heavy-duty air saw with rotary blades suspended on a 90-foot vertical boom.

The project got underway yesterday along a 138,000 volt line near Norway and will run to the Perch Lake Substation over the next two weeks.

A-T-C says the work depends on good weather, so the schedule is subject to change.
