Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Officials with UP Health System broke ground yesterday for their new hospital in Marquette.

The project features a 500,000 square-foot state-of-the-art medical facility and an 80,000 square-foot adjoining medical office building.

The hospital campus is being constructed on Baraga Avenue in the location of the former City of Marquette Municipal Service Building.

Construction began immediately after the groundbreaking.

UPHS officials say the project is supported by a more than $300 million investment by Duke LifePoint Healthcare.

The anticipated completion date is late 2018.
