Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Upper Michigan’s legislative delegation will join Governor Rick Snyder and Delta County prosecutor Steve Parks at the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba today to honor the inclusion of the term “Yooper” in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Parks’ efforts over several years and multiple tries resulted in the term being added to latest edition of the publication.

The celebration will commemorate the inclusion of the word “Yooper” in the dictionary, and ensure that those who reference the publication correctly know that natives and residents of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are proudly known as “Yoopers”.

The event happens at 11:30 a.m at the Barn Yard Review and Variety Stage near Building Ten on the fairgrounds.
