Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – 110th District State Representative Scott Dianda has introduced a resolution calling on the federal government to take steps to protect Lake Superior from the threats of Asian carp.
The invasive species is poised to enter the Great Lakes through the Chicago Area Waterway System.
Dianda says the existing protections are not substantial enough to thwart the invasion.
Dianda’s resolution calls on the federal government to take immediate steps to fortify the infrastructure at the Soo Locks to prevent the movement of Asian carp into Lake Superior.
The Calumet Democrat says the Soo Locks span the connecting waters between Lake Superior and the rest of the Great Lakes and the infrastructure must be secured as needed to keep Superior safe.
