Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, says federal dollars are coming to U.P. farmers and producers around the state.

The U.S.D.A’s Specialty Crop Block Grant Program will award nearly $2 million to support 30 projects throughout the state.

The projects include support for potato, apple and other specialty growers throughout the region.

Stabenow says the funds will give Michigan farmers additional resources to help promote and sell their products to consumers, protect their crops from pests and disease, and develop better production practices.

Michigan is the national leader in the production of over 18 types of crops and agriculture is Michigan’s second-largest industry.
