Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – 109th District State Representative John Kivela has included a measure as a part of a package of bills introduced in the Michigan House calling for increased accountability and transparency in the state contract process.

The legislation was introduced by House Democrats following several reports of fraud and abuse by Aramark, the private company under contract with the state to provide food services in Michigan prisons.

Kivela’s bill would require state contracts to include metrics and parameters that vendors must meet, and would allow the state to cancel contracts if the vendor fails to do so.

There are a total of seven bills in the legislative package.
