    Lansing, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Although the first day of summer is nearly here, the State of Michigan has started the search for the official 2016 Christmas tree.

    The Department of Technology, Management and Budget is looking for a tree to will reign over downtown Lansing’s holiday festivities.

    To be considered, the tree needs to be a spruce or fir, at least 65 feet tall with a maximum crown of 30 feet and maximum trunk diameter of 30 inches.

    It also must be within easy access of a road with no interference from wires and available at no cost.

    Nominations are requested by August 15th and you can nominate a tree at ChristmasTree@michigan.gov, or by mail to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget in Lansing.
