Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) –  Upper Peninsula Power Company crews are planning to lower water levels at their hydro reservoirs in the western U.P.

The drawdowns will begin in January in accordance with federal regulations and are in anticipation of annual spring runoff.

The first drawdowns will be at the Victoria Dam and Bond Falls in Ontonagon County.

The Prickett Hydro Dam Reservoir in Baraga County will be lowered in February.

The Lake Gogebic reservoir, in Gogebic County, will be lowered between now and the end of February.

The lower water levels may produce a gap under the ice and UPPCO officials are urging the public to use caution around the reservoirs and adjacent lakes and rivers.

The reservoirs will be returned to normal levels in April.
