Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The City of Marquette is moving ahead with a plan to ban smoking at one of the city’s most popular parks.

By a 4-3 vote last night, the Marquette City Commission instructed city staff to develop a new ordinance that would ban smoking at Presque Isle Park.

The vote came following a report and recommendation from the city’s Presque Isle Advisory Committee.

The committee felt that banning smoking at the park would improve the health and welfare of park users and would also serve to cut down on smoking-related litter.

Details of the ordinance and it’s enforcement will be worked out by the city staff.
