Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – In Marquette County, the race for Sheriff will be decided in today’s election as all candidates in the race, current Marquette County Undersheriff Mike Klein, Sheriff’s Deputy Lowell Larson and Chocolay Township Police Chief Greg Zyburt are running as Democrats.

No Republican candidates have entered that race.

Voters in many communities are also deciding the fate of tax proposals that will pay for police and fire operations and other municipal services.

In the Marquette area, residents are deciding a millage renewal for the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority that would allow for the continued building, managing and maintaining of the 47-mile Iron Ore Heritage Trail.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. local time.
