Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A downstate boy who was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after he fell and hit his head in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Wednesday night has been released from an area hospital.

The 14-year-old Kalkaska boy fell just after 10:00 p.m. in the remote Coves Group Campground along Pictured Rocks.

The accident happened in an area with a lot of trees, which made it hard for the Coast Guard helicopter crews to hoist him out.

The National Park Service assisted and the teen was taken to UP Health System-Marquette for treatment. His name has not been released.
