Hancock, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Michigan DNR is holding an open house later this week to present three master plans to replace areas lost to lake erosion at McLain State Park in Houghton County.

The park is off M-203 between Calumet and Hancock and features two miles of windswept Lake Superior beach.

Erosion from severe storms in September 2014 and January 2015 ate away park roadways, utilities and large sections of embankment forcing the closure of a dozen lakefront campsites.

The DNR says the plans provide a template for infrastructure development and replacement over the next 60 years.

The open house is this Saturday will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the main pavilion of the park.
