Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Governor Rick Snyder joined representatives from Cliffs Natural Resources and the WEC Energy Group yesterday in Marquette to comment on the recently-announced energy agreement between the companies and the state.

The $255 million, 20-year plan calls for the building and operation of two new electricity generating power plants in the U.P. by the middle of 2019.

The current Presque Isle Power Plant in Marquette would then be closed in 2020.

Snyder said the agreement creates an energy plan for the U.P. that is affordable, reliable and environmentally sensitive and would be a big step forward for Upper Michigan.

WEC Energy Group says they have not made a decision yet where the two new power plants would be located.
