Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – High winds off of Lake Superior along with lake effect snow caused poor visibility and slippery roads resulting in several minor traffic accidents around the Marquette and Alger County areas this morning.

The winter weather blast also caused school closings and delays around the region.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Alger County until 7:00 o’clock tonight while a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Marquette County and other counties to the west along the Lake Superior until 4:00 p.m.

State Police at Regional Dispatch in Negaunee say M-28 East remains closed between Harvey and Munising due to blowing snow.

Travel on US-41 between Marquette and Harvey is also being discouraged by Marquette City Police.

State Police say all other areas are reporting snow covered and slippery roads with blowing snow and very windy conditions.
