Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) –  Following a recent initiative to increase broadband access, Marquette County has been recognized as the U.P.’s first “Certified Connected Community”.

The Marquette County Broadband Initiative was a collaboration lead by representatives from NMU, the Lake Superior Community Partnership and Marquette County to identify local broadband gaps and set goals for increasing high-speed internet access and use.

The county certification by Connect Michigan is the 11th overall in the state.

The certification and a new Technology Action Plan will be marked at NMU at an event tomorrow morning at 9:00 at the University Center on campus.

Steve Arwood, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, will be the keynote speaker.
