Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – U.P. authorities say a weekend multi-agency effort to reduce injuries on area snowmobile trails was a success.

The enforcement wave was held Saturday in Alger, Luce and Schoolcraft counties and was a collaboration between the county sheriffs, Michigan State Police from the St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie Posts along with the DNR and National Park Service.

Officers focused on violations including Operating While Intoxicated, Excessive Speed, Careless Operation and more.

140 stops were made with 19 tickets issued and 5 misdemeanor arrests.

During the operation, no injuries or crashes were reported in the area.

A significantly lower number of snowmobilers were on the trails due to Saturday’s weather conditions.
