Escanaba, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Organizers with the U.P. State Fair say bad weather during the traditionally busiest days of the event dropped this year’s total attendance.

Nearly two inches of rain on Saturday, August 20th and flooding throughout the fairgrounds dropped gate attendance by 75 percent on the day that is typically the fair’s busiest.

Gate attendance was down 38 percent the day before when a quarter of an inch of rain fell.

Final gate numbers came in at just above 75,000 for this year, which was an overall drop of around 13-percent from last year.

The 2015 attendance was 83,600.

Next year’s U.P. State Fair is scheduled for August 14th to the 20th.
