Houghton, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Houghton Police are reporting a telephone scam making the rounds in the area.

The department has heard from residents about telephone calls using the police department caller ID.

The callers say they are with the City of Houghton Police Department and that if the person receiving the call does not pay their back taxes, they will be arrested.

Houghton City Police say they do not make calls of this kind and if you receive such a call, hang up and notify the department.
