Sault Ste. Marie, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An eastern U.P. man has been sentenced to prison for assaulting an officer with a knife.

37-year-old Eric Verweibe of Sault Ste. Marie was sentenced to 14 years in prison for Assault on a Federal Officer with a Dangerous Weapon.

He pleaded guilty last July to assaulting two Bay Mills Tribal Officers who were responding to an assault report in August of 2015.

The officers had to tase Verwiebe after he pulled a large kitchen knife and approached them, threatening to kill them.

After he was tased, Verweibe continued to resist and attempted to punch the officers before he was eventually taken into custody.
