Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Michigan DNR is recommending approval of a proposed limestone mine in the eastern U.P.

Canadian company Graymont, Inc. is seeking to open the 10,000 acre mine in northern Mackinac County near Rexton.

The firm submitted a revised Land Transaction Application to the DNR last week.

The DNR says the updated proposal amends a January application and addresses their concerns with the previous proposal.

Based on the revisions, DNR officials have recommended that the Graymont application be approved.

The agreement will be up for action at the March 19th Natural Resources Commission meeting in downstate Roscommon.

More information about the proposal, including a map of tracts under consideration, can be found at michigan.gov/graymontproposal.
