Copper Country Man Arraigned For Drug Possession

    Houghton, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A suspect arrested this week in Houghton for possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon has been arraigned.

    30-year-old Niles Nathan Rothenberger of Atlantic Mine was arrested Monday morning in the parking lot of the Houghton Elementary School.

    Police say that at no time did he make any threats toward the school nor did he have any intentions of harming anyone at the school.

    Rothenberger was charged with Possession of Marijuana on School Property, a high-court misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and/or $2,000 fine.

    He was not arraigned on a concealed weapon charge.  He was ordered to turn all of his weapons over to the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office and to seek mental health treatment.

    Rothenberger was released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond and faces a preliminary hearing on December 14th.
