Lansing, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – 110th District State Representative Scott Dianda says he voted in favor of legislation adding wolves to the definition of game animals late last night.

The Calumet Democrat voted for the legislation, introduced in the State Senate by Escanaba Republican Senator Tom Casperson.

Dianda says the measure would allow for the hunting of wolves in an attempt to mitigate some of the negative impacts of the resurgent wolf population in the U.P.

The bill requires that the Natural Resources Commission’s decisions regarding the designation of game species and creating an open season upon a game species to be consistent with sound scientific wildlife management.

The bill now goes to Governor Rick Snyder for his signature.
