Escanaba, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Escanaba Public Safety responded to a single-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon.

It happened on the 2200 block of First Avenue North around 3:30 p.m. when a pickup truck hit a utility pole and trapped the driver inside.

The truck had been westbound on First Avenue North near North 22nd Street when it struck a legally parked vehicle, veered left and then hit the pole.

A witness told officers that the truck was speeding. The power lines were deactivated by city crews so the driver, a 23-year-old Gladstone man, could be removed safely from the vehicle.

He was arrested for operating under the influence of drugs, and no name has been released at this time.
