Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Two resolutions have been approved by the State Senate in Lansing recognizing the importance of mining in Michigan.

The resolutions, introduced by Senator Tom Casperson, declare September 6th as “Michigan Mining Day” to recognize responsible mining and it’s economic benefits the state.

They also brings support for renewed growth of Michigan’s longstanding mining industry.

The Escanaba Republican says he picked September 6th to commemorate mining’s history in the U.P. and designates the U.P’s telephone area code of 906.

The full Senate voted in support of the resolutions with no objections.
