Western U.P. Man Arrested After Police Standoff

Copper City, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Houghton County man was arrested early this morning after a nearly 12-hour standoff with police.

State Police from the Calumet Post were called to a residence on Gratiot Street in Copper City after the suspect threatened a public works employee who visited the home at approximately 9:30 yesterday morning.

The suspect then barricaded himself in the home and made threats toward law enforcement officers.

The State Police Emergency Support Team was called in around 9:00 p.m., and negotiations continued until the suspect surrendered peacefully at 6:20 a.m. this morning.

The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending arraignment on criminal charges.
