Warm, drier weather throughout Upper Michigan continues to increase the risk of wildfires.  The National Weather Service has issued a “red flag warning” between 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. today meaning conditions will be greatly enhanced for wildfire situations.  No open burning is allowed and burn permits are not being issued across most of the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Michigan.  Only residents in Marquette County can burn with DNR restrictions.

A new audit of Michigan’s qualified voter file shows that 13-hundred and 75 deceased individuals voted in Michigan a combined 13-hundred and 81 times between 2008 and 2011.  Further, the Michigan auditor general’s report says 113 inmates voted a combined 120 times between 2008 and 2011.  The Secretary of State says the problems are due to timing and clerical errors, which it will work on, with local officials.  The report also noted 153 cases where ballots from deceased persons were recorded, however the Secretary of State says it could be a timing issue, where a person died after submitting an absentee ballot, but before election day.  Auditors recommended the Bureau of Elections should work closely with local clerks to fix the problem.  The Secretary of State also says however there still is not a verified case that an ineligible person voted, and it’s already started working on improvements in the system.

Gasoline prices fell almost 14 cents a gallon in Michigan over the last week.  ‘Triple A Michigan’ says the statewide average is now just over three-dollars-69 cents per gallon. That’s almost 45 cents lower than a year ago.  Of the cities it surveys, the Auto Club says the lowest prices in the state are in the Saginaw/Bay city area at just over three-dollars-59 cents. The highest are in the Marquette area at about three-dollars-87-cents a gallon.  Dearborn-based ‘Triple A Michigan’ surveys two-thousand-800 Michigan gas stations daily.
