Superior Arts Youth Theater Takes to the Waters with “Once on This Island Jr”!

1191

Marquette, MI  –  Last Saturday, Todd Paz, host of The 8th Day, brought you the latest from the Superior Arts Youth Theater with Nikki Nason. This summer, Marquette’s local youth theater is working hard to bring a production called “Once on This Island Jr.” to the community, opening Thursday, August 6th.

Once-On-This-Island-JR-Color“Once on This Island Jr.” is a story based off the Disney classic, The Little Mermaid. Because it is a Junior production, “Once on This Island”, will be a shorter play; enjoyable for any age! The play will be hosted at the Lake Superior Theater in the Lower Harbor, adjacent to the marina. The theater is fitted with air conditioning and brand new plush seating. Right next to the shoreline, the Lake Superior Theater seems like a very fitting place to have a play that revolves around water!

Now, the Superior Arts Youth Theater is working to bring you this fantastic show, but they are also doing a lot more. This program is taking local children three to seventeen years old and giving them skills that are irreplaceable. Nason said, “Without youth interested in the arts, arts will die out.” You could say the youth theater is trying to save art from disappearing in our community as well as giving our children technical skills they will use for the greater part of their lives.

Children who attend this year round theater program will gain skills like problem solving, the ability to us PowerPoint and use production equipment. During the classes you’ll find children at the age of seven actually teacher younger students how to do specific skills. Right here in our back yard, these kids are actually learning what it takes to become the leaders our world is starting to lack.

Despite the recent survey done by the Michigan Youth Arts Organization that stated, “theater was one of the must under-served arts in the state”, the Superior Arts Youth Theater as seen a steady growth.
