The Miners defeat Ishpeming to sweep the season series and improve to 14-1 on Sunny 101.9 WKQS

Ishpeming, Michigan– Negaunee turns it over on an in-bounds pass as Ishpeming converts on the other end to take a 2-0 lead. The Miners respond with a basket from Tanner Uren, on the assist from Brock Weaver to tie it up at 2-2. With 5:40 left in the first quarter the teams are deadlocked 4-4. With two minutes to play in the first the teams are trading buckets with the Hematites holding a 10-9 advantage. The Miners have taken a 11-9 lead with just under a minute to play. Uren scores scores down low, as Negaunee recaptures the lead.

First quarter:

Negaunee: 13      Ishpeming: 12

Tyler Jandron rips the ball and goes in for two points as the Miners get on the board first in the second quarter. Ishpeming responds with a 3-point play to tie the game, as Tanner Uren picks up his second foul. With under six minutes to play in the second the Miners have taken a five point lead, after Eric Lori drops a 3-pointer; making it 20-15. The Miners have taken their biggest lead of the game, 22-15 with just over five minutes left in the first half. Eric Lori drives and Ishpeming picks up a flagrant foul. The Miners will get two free throws and the ball back. Tanner Uren sinks a 3-pointer as Negaunee pushes their lead to eight points; 25-17. Ishpeming has kept it close, as they cut the Miner lead to four points with 1:15 left.

Halftime score:

Negaunee: 27      Ishpeming: 21

Negaunee gets on the board first in the second half, taking a 29-21 lead in the early stages of the third quarter. The Miners push their lead to 11, before the Hematites cut the lead back to eight; causing Negaunee to call a timeout. With 4:40 left to play in the third, the Miners are holding a nine point. The Miners are holding a 10 point lead as they look to fight off an Ishpeming comeback. Uren drops a 3-pointer to push the Miner lead to 14 points. With 1:15 left in the third, Negaunee has blown a close game, taking a 16 point lead; 43-27.

Third quarter:

Negaunee: 43     Ishpeming: 27

Negaunee scores to open the fourth and takes a 18-point lead, as they look to put the Hematites away. After a pair of free throws the Miners have opened up a 20-point lead. Ishpeming puts on the press, which the Miners crack, resulting in a Tanner Uren lay-up. With 5:01 to play Negaunee is up 52-32 as they are pulling away late. Brock Weaver converts to give the Miners a 24-point lead. Eric Dompierre enters the game for Ishpeming. Both teams clear the benches as Negaunee is cruising down the stretch. With 1:24 left, Negaunee is up 62-41.

The Miners use a huge third quarter to blow the game open and complete the series sweep of rival Ishpeming. Negaunee is 14-1 and are sitting atop the conference at 9-0.
