Secure Lasting Foundations
This bridge has solid strong foundations
The “Mighty Mack” is the fourth largest suspension bridge in the world today.
My first trip over the Mackinac bridge came as I moved my family from Pennsylvania to the Upper Peninsula. What a breath-taking experience!
The Mackinaw bridge was officially opened on November 1, 1957 and officials say that it will last 1,000 years!
The foundations of the Mackinac Bridge go deep into the earth below the water.
“How is that possible?” you ask. The answer is in the two foundations which extend from the bedrock 200 feet below to just above the surface of the water and are made 103,000 cubic yards of concrete! Each foundation supports a tower, which reaches 552 feet above the water, and can withstand incredibly high winds by allowing the structure to flex up to 35 feet in either direction!
The foundation of the structure is critical to its initial success as well as its longevity and security of the bridge. These days it seems that nothing lasts very long, let alone a thousand years! How can we last? How can we pass along the things that we deem as important to the next generation, specifically our own children?
I believe the answer is a strong foundation. The Mighty Mack’s foundation consists of concrete and steel reinforcement. The foundation for the human spirit consists of moral, spiritual, educational and emotional underpinnings which become the bedrock upon which

our lives are built.
Although challenged of late, the church has been a vital part of the development of that foundation.
Regardless of denominational affiliation the church has helped to formulate that foundation in the lives of millions in this country over the past 400 years!
Maybe it’s time to get back to the foundational values and truths that have made our nation great?
Maybe the church can help you give your family a foundation that is strong and secure?
In anticipation of Easter I would like to invite you to join us here at Silver Creek Church, in Harvey, as we experience the most foundational event in history . . . the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
