Health Tip – Mar. 13 – Is Your Stomach Bothering You?

Have you ever had a bad case of indigestion after a meal? Also called dyspepsia, indigestion is a term used to describe a feeling of fullness or discomfort during or after a meal. It can be accompanied by burning or pain in the upper stomach.

It might be because the chef didn’t properly prepare what was on your plate. When not prepared properly, some foods like beans, onions, and seafood can cause an unfavorable reaction in some people. Make sure your food is cooked right so you can have dessert and not indigestion.

Also, an upset stomach can be caused by more than what you ate. Smoking and drinking too much, drinking too much water with your meal, and even insomnia can lead to a person suffering from some painful post-meal indigestion.

Persistent indigestion could be a sign of an underlying problem  such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, ulcers, or gallbladder disease, rather than a condition of its own. If you suffer from recurring indigestion, seek advice from your physician when home remedies, such as antacids, fail to give relief.
