Marquette Township, MI – August 4, 2018 – Lions Field is jamming today for the Marquette Charter Township’s annual “Catch the Vision” Community Day. The majority of the day is done, but it’s not over yet! The park is rockin’ til dark with live music all evening long.

Today’s festivities started with family-fun around 10am. Double Trouble DJ’s had three large inflatables set up on the ice rink and there was face fast painting near the play ground. Around noon, the live music started with UP Right Bass & Hammond! Sunny’s own Major Discount was jammin’ with the band for their two-hour rhythm and soul performance. The Township also brought out New Attitudes Dance Studio. Some of the girls from the dance school did routines on the grass to some show numbers and current hits while the Pickleball clinic was going on next to the inflatables on the rink.

These kids sure were great.

Just returning from a gig in Las Vegas, The Blusers were next on the music schedule, taking over the stage for the 2pm slot. Lead singer “Fast Eddie” lived up to his name starting off the show with a fast-paced bluesy song. While Eddie and his band were rockin’ out on the stage, the rivalry of the year was taking place on the softball field. The Marquette Charter Township Throwbacks and the Sunny Sluggers took the field to find out who would get bragging rights this year!

It was a long, hot seven innings as the Sluggers put the hurt on the Throwbacks. Reaching the seventh inning with the Sunny Sluggers 9 to 0 over the the Throwbacks, the Township was on their last out when they pulled out some solid hits and put themselves on the board, 9 to 2! Both teams put in a great effort, but ultimately, our Sunny Sluggers walked away with another vicotry over our Township Friends. Overall, Downtown Eye Care took first place in the tournament with Fox taking second place.

Super One Foods had bugers, brats, and hot dogs on the grill to raise money for the upcoming changes to the Lions Field Ice Rink! The Township wants to either put syntehtic ice on the rink or build a roof over the rink, and Super One Foods was out there to help raise money with their delicious burgers. Joining later in the afternoon, visitors also had the chance to try a fresh, wood-baked pizza from Copper Crust Company!

New this year, the Township featured an “All-Stars” performance with Up North Lodge Sing It U.P. contestants. The contest brought four the best singers back to the stage from the last four years of Sing It U.P. competitions. Max, Robert, Maddie, and Elizabeth were each given two chances to wow the judges and win a two-track demo recorded by Great Lakes Radio. Once each of the performers finished their two pieces, they were surprised with a chance to sing one final song. Alex Baysore did a great job as host for the contest and even made his own debut during a short break in the contest. In the end it was a very close contest. Robert sang an incredible piece in Italian. Maddie’s most notable piece was At Last by Etta James. Elizabeth nailed her notes, but Max took home the prize with his popular country hits and one unique love song.

Jazz in the Park was from noon until 2pm today.

Closing out the venue tonight is Left of Center. The local rock band will be playing until dark out at Lion’s Field. You can still make it down to celebrate Community Day in the Township! Lion’s Field is located at 2213 Summit Rd in Marquette Township, MI. And please remember, if you do come down, bring the kids, but leave the dogs at home.
