Next up, the test your near sighted version.

Marquette, MI  –  July 22, 2019  –  Like your other senses, your vision is important to every day life. Taking care of your eyes makes it easier to perform better in your day to day tasks. At Superior Eye Health & Vision Therapy the number one goal is improving individual’s eyesight and providing accurate visual information that can help you make decisions about your vision and staying healthy.

While many other vision centers will give you an exam, tell you your prescription and move to the next patient, you’ll find the optometrists at Superior Eye take the time to educate patients on what they are doing and why it is important.

Earlier this month, Todd Noordyk went in for a standard eye exam and wanted to share the experience so you would know what to expect when you make an appointment with Superior Eye Health! Todd’s optometrist for the day was the enthusiastic and well spoken Dr. Stephen Herman, OD. He was ready to get to business and focus on Todd and his needs.

Step 1

Measuring the eyes and the light reflecting off the back of the eye.

You’ll sit down in an exam room to do a auto refraction test. The exam will measure your eyes and the amount of light reflecting off the back of your eyes. The auto refraction helps determine what prescription you’ll need for your glasses or contact lenses.

Step 3

It looks a little silly, but testing your 3D vision is very important.

Back in an exam room, you’ll be asked about your health history and be given a chance to make any updates to your file. Then the staff will check your depth of field and 3D vision. They will be looking to make sure there is no muscular degeneration.

Step 5

The first drop numbs the eye and the second will dilate Todd's eyes.

During this portion of the visit you are given two eye drops. The first irritates the eyes for 10-15 seconds before numbing the eyes to allow the optometrist to take your eye pressure. The second drop is used to dilate the eyes so they can get a better view of the back of your eyes.

Step 7

Once your eyes are fully dilated the optician will place you in front of the OTC machine to do some scans of the back of your eyes. Because your eyes are now dilated, they can see even more of the eye and get an idea of what is going on in the back.

Step 2

After the auto refraction, you will move out of the exam room and into an open area in the back of the office to sit at a machine for your peripheral vision screening. This will test your side vision without glasses to reveal the current state of your eyes.

Step 4

Next up, the test your near sighted version.
Next up, Dr. Herman tests your up close reading capabilities.

Around this time you’ll sit down with your optometrist and they’ll start their exam looking for changes in your prescription, reduced depth of field and more. An annual eye exam allows doctors to see your eye health and systemic health as well.

While your eyes are starting to dilate you’ll take a trip out to the showroom with an optician to check out some new frames and/or sunglasses. There are hundreds of frames to choose from designed for both men and women. Even the sunglasses can be customized for different things like fishing or driving.

Step 8

Now you’ll get a chance to find out what all of the tests and scans you completed mean! The optometrist will review what they are seeing in your images making sure there is no bleeding, nicking & the blood vessels look healthy.

Mika Gronqvist, a Finnish optometrist at Superior Eye Health Care with Todd Noordyk.

Following the eye exam, Todd also got a chance to speak with Finnish optometrist Mika Gronqvist. Mika was born in the same town in Finland as Walt Lindala’s mother! He went to school in Helsinki then moved to Michigan where he has been practicing for 23 years. Just last year, Gronqvist made the move to the Upper Peninsula to work with the team at Superior Eye Health and Vision Therapy. Having Mika at Superior Eye Health has allowed for many new Finnish and Swedish speaking clients to come to the vision center and receive top quality eye care.

Todd left feeling great about his eye sight and with a brand new pair of Penguin frames in his favorite blue color. This new sunglasses have a grey polarized lens and an ant-reflective back coating.
