Marquette, Michigan – Saturday, on the 8th Day Radio Show with Todd Pazz, Tara A Laase-McKinney — the Promotions & Events Coordinator for the Marquette Downtown Development Authority — highlighed the very busy and family fun weekend of July 27th. The weekend starts with Blueberry festival on Friday with Art on the Rocks and Outback Art Fair the rest of the weekend, bringing many visitors into our community and helping the local economy. The Blueberry festival, now in it 17th year, evolved from the previous “Crazy Days” event. This year there will be multiple stages where musicians will play throughout the day from 10:00a to 7p.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority efforts with the Blueberry Festival and their summer Music on Third Street each 3rd Thursday of the month through September also were discussed. Remaining Music on Third events include this weeks Thursday July 19th as well as the upcoming Thursday, August 16 and Thursday, September 20.

Washington and Frontstreets will be bustling with sidewalk sales, food vendors, artists, demonstrations, pony rides, inflatable arcade games, and activities for children and families. Downtown restaurants will satisfy your cravings for blueberry fare, from blueberry pizza to blueberry beer, whilemany downtown shops offer will offer “blue” specials.

Music fills the streets as live musicians perform throughout the day. Enjoy the melodies of Gator Bait at the Washington Street Pocket Park from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by Chris Valenti from 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Fast Eddie from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., Troy Graham 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. and The Maynards from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Center Stage at Washington and Front streets will rock with the live music of the “Blueberry Jam” by local favorites Union Suits from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Kurt & Kim from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Will Kilpela & Friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., State 51 Band from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Flat Broke Blues Band from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Conga-Se-Menne from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Additional entertainment includes karate demonstrations by Spirit Warrior Karate Academy at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and the popular Youth Talent Show from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m., sponsored by the Superior Arts Youth Theater.

The 17th annual limited edition festival posters will be available for $10 each at select downtown businesses and at the information booth on the day of the event.
