Gwinn, Michigan Friday March 4th, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team was in Gwinn, Michigan tonight to take on the Gwinn Modeltowners, in the district championship game. Brady Guilbault was there to bring you all the action from the U.P. Propane Broadcast Booth on Sunny.FM.
The Gwinn Modeltowners won the tip to start the game and scored on the possession to take the early lead against the Negaunee Miners. The Negaunee Miners were slow to start, but were able to take a 5-2 lead over the Gwinn Modeltowners, with 5 minutes left in the quarter. The Negaunee Miners ended the first quarter with a 17-8 lead over the Gwinn Modeltowners.
The Negaunee Miners started the third quarter dominating the Modeltowners and took a 21-8 lead with 1 1/2 minutes played. The Gwinn Modeltowners struggle against the force of the Negaunee Miners, but were able to score a few baskets, to trail 23-11. The Negaunee Miners ended the first half with a commanding lead 38-19 over the Gwinn Modeltowners on Sunny.FM.
Hailey Fezatt was first to score in the third quarter making a three point shot and giving the Miners a 41-19 lead over the Modeltowners. The Modeltowners continued to struggle defensively against the Miners and trailed 56-32 at the end of third.
The Gwinn Modeltowners started the fourth quarter with the first basket, but were unable to keep up with the Negaunee Miners pace. The Negaunee Miners wrapped this game up with a commanding win 75-41 and were crowned the district champions tonight. GO MINERS!!!

The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team will travel to West Ishpeming, Michigan Monday March 7th, 2016, to face the Ishpeming Hematites in the first round of district playoffs.
