West- Ishpeming, Michigan– 02/21/2018– The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team traveled to Westwood to take on the Patriots this Wednesday night. The Miners came into this — as the Patriots were –. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault brought you all of the action on Sunny FM.
The Negaunee Boys were wearing their flashy gold jerseys for this game while Westwood was wearing their white home jerseys. Ethan Burke of Westwood won the tip to start off this game. David Delarye scored the first two points of the game for Westwood. Negaunee answered back as Jakson Sager scored the first three points for the Miners. Jacob Adriano took back the lead for the Patriots a few minutes before the buzzer. Jason Waterman scored the last two points in the first quarter for the Miners. 10-7 was the score as the Patriots led the Miners. David Delarye pushed past Waterman and scored the first two points in the second quarter for the Patriots. Jason Waterman answered back with a three pointer for Negaunee. Coach Waterman, Negaunee, brought Drew DuShane into the game to try and stop David Delarye down low. Westwood had a good run for the last few minutes of the second quarter but just before the buzzer, Luke Mattson scored two points for Negaunee with a spinning fade-away. 22-19 was the score at half-time as the Miners trailed the Patriots.
Westwood had possession of the ball to start off the second half of the game. Jason Waterman scored the first two points of the third quarter for Negaunee with his free-throws. After fighting to keep the Patriots on their toes, Drew DuShane scored the last two points in the third quarter tying the game 30-30. Drew Lindburg scored a nice three in the fourth to get the Miners up by ten over the Patriots. Negaunee went into the double-bonus towards the end of the fourth. With the free-throw opportunities, the Miners held their lead and won the game with a score of 52-42.

STATS: Jason Waterman led the scoring for the Miners and all players with 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Jacob Ennett followed behind him with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 assists. Jakson Sager scored 9 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, and 5 assists. Scoring 3 points was Drew DuShane (3 rebounds, 1 assist) and Drew Lindberg (2 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist). Luke Mattson scored 2 points to round off the scoring for the Miners.
** The next Miners game will be next week Tuesday, February 27th as the Boys travel to Iron Mountain to take on the Mountaineers. Pre-game for that game will be around 7:20pm as the tip-off will be at 7:45pm. The next Girls game will be the following Wednesday, February 28th as they stay home to take on the Westwood Patriots.
