Negaunee Boys Basketball Stays Undefeated with 70-31 Win over Hancock on Sunny 101.9

Hancock, MIJanuary 20, 2020 – In its third long road trip in four games, the Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team looked impressive once again with a 70-31 thumping of Hancock to stay undefeated with a 9-0 record. Jesse Anderson was live from Hancock with the call between the Miners and Bulldogs on Sunny 101.9.

1st Half:

Negaunee came out strong in the first few minutes of this game after having several poor starts in the past few games. The Miners led 8-0, with Drew Lindberg and Jakson Sager doing damage in the paint. Hancock was struggling with Negaunee’s full court pressure, the turnovers were piling up. The Bulldogs got on the board with a 3-pointer from Elijah Packard, but still trailed 8-3. Will Luke scored on a layup off of a steal, and his basket gave the Miners a 15-3 lead during its big first quarter run. Jason Waterman scored for Negaunee on the next possession to increase the lead to 14 points. After a big first quarter, the Miners were running away with this game early, and led 18-3 over Hancock.

The Miners’ size and pressure continued to cause Hancock fits, resulting in more fast break points from Waterman, Sager and Alex Munson. The Bulldogs were trying to fight back into this game after four straight points from Carson Chynoweth, but trailed 30-7 with five minutes left in the quarter. Both teams went back and forth in the final minutes of the half, and Negaunee led Hancock 36-15 at halftime.

2nd Half:

The Miners scored the first four points of the second half, and they took a 40-15 lead. Chynoweth was playing well offensively for the Bulldogs, but the Miners went on another run. After baskets from Waterman and Munson, Chas Kumpala had an old-fashioned three-point play for the Miners to give them a 49-19 lead. At the end of three quarters, Negaunee led 54-21.

End of 3rd: Negaunee Miners 54, Hancock Bulldogs 21

The fourth quarter was off to a great start for the Miners, as an and-one by Nick Jacobetti gave them a 57-21 lead. Both teams were executing on offense, and Negaunee got five consecutive points from Nathan Brundage to give them a 66-29 lead in the final minutes. After another dominant performance, the Miners picked up a 70-31 victory over Hancock to improve to 9-0.

Final Score: Negaunee Miners 70, Hancock Bulldogs 31
