MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Cliffs Natural Resources will celebrate the LS&I Marquette ore dock’s 100 year anniversary this weekend at Marquette’s Lower Harbor.
In honor of the 100 year milestone, the U.S. Brig Niagara, a tall ship from Erie, Pennsylvania, will sail into Lower Harbor on Friday at approximately 4:00pm.
Cliffs’ District Manager of Public Affairs in Michigan, Jennifer Huetter, joined the SUNNY Morning Show this morning to talk about the arrival of the tall ship.
Cliffs was able to include approximately 60 passengers to sail from Munising to Marquette on Friday. Sailing on the ship will be 22 participants from Marquette’s Big Brother/Big Sister program as well as several employees from the LS&I Railroad and Cliffs Michigan Operations.
Huetter added that the Niagara will be closed to the public on Friday while the ship prepares for a private reception that evening. The ship will also be closed on Saturday for a private celebration for Cliffs employees and their family members.
The public tours will start on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The cost of the tour is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for kids 12 years of age and younger. All proceeds from the tours will go to the Marquette Maritime Museum.
