Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A half-hour TV special on the career of local broadcast icon Carl Pellonpaa is airing next week.
WLUC TV6 Marketing Director Kim Parker joined The SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to talk about “The Life and Times of Carl Pellonpaa”.
Parker said the documentary chronicles the life of Pellonpaa, who holds the distinction of creating the longest running television program with a single host in the history of broadcasting.
That program, Finland Calling, debuted in 1962 and ran its last episode in March of 2015, after a 53 year run.
Parker says the special looks at Pellonpaa’s early life and career, his account of the origins of Finland Calling on TV6, the Finland Calling dances, the story behind the Finn Fest celebrations, and his service in this community that made him an integral part of the growth and development of Upper Michigan.
It also features Carl’s friends and co-workers, including Ray Adamini, Don Ryan, Karen Rhodes, Walt Lindala and Larry Deloria, reminiscing about his life.
The special airs Wednesday, November 25 at 7:30pm/6:30CT on WLUC TV6.
