Marquette, MI – (05/20/20) – Northern Michigan University President Fritz Erickson joined us today for Wildcat Wednesday to share an update on how the campus community is adapting to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
Erickson started off with information about this week’s decision by the university to begin the Fall 2020 semester earlier than usual. The semester will begin on Monday, August 17th and end just before Thanksgiving on Tuesday, November 24th.
He said the earlier start will help avoid a late fall resurgence of COVID-19 by preventing students from traveling home for Thanksgiving week and returning to campus for the final two weeks of a usual fall semester.
Erickson also talked about how the university is preparing for financial challenges that are pending with state funding allocations expected to be negatively impacted by the loss of state tax revenue by COVID-19 shutdowns.
He also talked about the latest developments with NMU sports for the upcoming Fall and Winter seasons and what those seasons may look like.
