MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Northern Michigan University Alum and long-time university adviser and governmental liaison David S. Haynes has been appointed to position of President of the university.
The appointment came after the stepping down of Les Wong as president, who accepted the Presidency at San Francisco State University.
The appointment of Haynes to the position by NMU’s Board of Trustees was subject to some criticism and questions about the propriety of the process. Haynes, however, says that when he was asked to serve in the role, he was happy to say yes.
Haynes joined News Director Walt Lindala this morning on the SUNNY Morning Show and talked about a series of items ranging from his history as a lobbyist and governmental liaison to working with his wife Martha Haynes, who was recently promoted to the post of Vice President of Advancement.
Haynes also discussed his vision for the university and his intentions for the time he will stay on as president.
