Marquette, MI – August 28, 2020 – Officials with The Vista Theater are continuing to assess the damages from Wednesday’s roof collapse at the theater in downtown Negaunee.
Vista Theater Advisory Board President Nate Heffron joined Mark & Walt in the Morning today to talk about the recovery process and where it stands.
Heffron said the collapse affected the center of the structure over the auditorium and is thought to be due to a roof drain failure during extremely heavy rains. He added that it appears the roof over the stage, which was repaired in 2018, and the roof over the lobby and entryway are intact.
Heffron said a structural inspection will be conducted to determine if the building can be saved and what needs to happen to ensure public safety during the process.
The board is looking to have the group’s membership meet on Monday, September 14th to present options for them to vote on.

Sure hope it can be saved. Japhet Rytkonen was my Great uncle. I was a regular visitor of his daughter Dagmar until her death at 100 years old.
