Marquette, MISeptember 25, 2020 – State Senator Ed McBroom joined Mark & Walt in the Morning today for a wrap-up of a busy legislative week in Lansing.  In a lengthy interview, the Dickinson County Republican talked about several matters that were addressed.

The week featured the state’s operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year being approved and sent to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s desk for her signature.  McBroom says despite the challenges of the last several months, the budget is balanced and on time and supports important U.P. issues.

Also this week, U.P. legislators and officials testified on the “dark store” tax loophole in support of a bill by McBroom revising how property taxes are assessed on vacant big box stores.

McBroom was also joined this week by State Representative Sara Cambensy and former Marquette Township Manager Randy Girard to testify in opposition to the Governor Whitmer’s recent appointment of Victoria Enyart to the Michigan Tax Tribunal.

McBroom said he introduced a motion during the hearing to disapprove the nomination, but the motion did not pass.

McBroom also talked about why he chose to vote against a package of bills passed allowing hundreds of thousands of people to expunge their criminal records to help them in finding jobs and housing, but didn’t include DWI offenses.
