Marquette, MichiganFebruary 22, 2019 – With all of the absurd (yet seasonal) winter weather we’ve been having, Walt and I decided it is time to put “Kelsey’s Crock Pot Scale” down in writing.

Picture this:

Depending on the condition of the roads, imagine that you are Grandma driving with your delicious chili in your Crock Pot, which is sitting in your otherwise empty passenger seat. You’re on your way to (or from) a family get-together, with your scrumptious party food. And then…WINTER STORM.

But gosh darn it, you are going to this family get-together with your savory goodness.

Now, for how the scale works – imagine your Crock Pot in your front seat. The degree of “fullness” of the Crock Pot will dictate how you drive on the roads.

  • Empty Crock Pot: Proceed with normal driving habits (safely), expect excellent road conditions & visibility
  • Half Full Crock Pot: Drive slowly, leave lots of stopping distance, look out for the “other guy,” expect less-than-ideal road conditions
  • Full Crock Pot: Drive slowly and cautiously, leave plenty of stopping distance, look out for the “other guy,” expect poor visibility and poor road conditions.
  • Topless Crock Pot: DO NOT DRIVE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY- If you must, drive with extreme caution, well below the speed limit, leave plenty of stopping distance, look out for the “other guy,” expect near impossibly visibility and near impossible driving conditions on snowy and icy roads

So there you have it. When you hear Walt & I talk about Crock Pots and winter weather driving on the show next time, now you’ll know what we mean!

Keep up with me on The Sunny Morning Show weekdays 6-10AM on Sunny.FM 101.9.
